Perhaps no other business can claim the extensive experience developing training content for software users than Microsoft®. If one cares to verify our claim, simply consider the history of the notorious “Office Assistant” aka “Clippy” that Microsoft developed to support wider user adoption of its Office suite of daily use software tools. The Office Assistant debuted, coincidentally, with the release of Office 97 and continued as an Office feature through Office 2003. With much fanfare, not to mention a brilliant ability to poke fun at itself, Microsoft Office product management decided to terminate the feature with Office 2003 as the result of widespread user complaints about the feature.
We were pleased to see the return of an entirely renovated Office Assistant feature in the form of Microsoft’s Ribbon Hero 2 which, as its name suggests, constitutes training content in game form (complete with challenges that can be used to verify user understanding and assimilation). In sum, with its Office Assistant, Microsoft went through the complete range of possibilities as it conceptualized, developed and then entirely renovated training content in response to its user community.
Our VisualSP™ application for SharePoint 2010, in keeping with Microsoft’s Ribbon Hero 2, delivers training content directly from the SharePoint Ribbon. Further, our content is in video format, which is, once again, very consistent with Ribbon Hero 2. Our content is not organized into a game, but there is nothing to stop our customers from adding their own original training content along with our video classes to create a challenge environment with VisualSP™ and our video tutorials at its heart.
Therefore, we are very confident that our product has been put together with some of the most effective training methods that are in use today for software training for end users who do not have a deep commitment to software, yet must use these tools for day to day business procedures. There is no better location for training content for SharePoint 2010 than within the SharePoint ribbon, itself. Microsoft has proved this point. Initial market reaction to our product has been entirely positive. If your organization is in need of a strong driver for user adoption of the SharePoint 2010 computing environment, then you should take a tour of VisualSP™.
